If you live in Washington and are doing research on scoliosis in children and are considering scoliosis treatment alternatives to avoid surgical intervention then you will want to read this entire page very carefully. Doing so, may save your child (or you) from a long and grueling surgery.

Although you want to do what is best for your child and your reflex may be to “just start doing something”, it is important that you first understand the symptoms of scoliosis before you begin the process of choosing the right doctors. Discovering the important elements to a successful treatment of scoliosis in children is first step in that process. Here are some important questions to consider in making an informed decision on what type of scoliosis treatment would be best for your child. We have developed this site for that purpose.

6 Keys Important Questions to Ask When Comparing Alternative Scoliosis Treatment

1. Are the Providers Certified Specialist In Non- Surgical Scoliosis Treatment?

You wouldn’t consider sending your child to a surgeon who didn’t specialize in scoliosis surgery and you shouldn’t consider anything less when it comes to non surgical scoliosis therapy.
Not only were our doctor’s among the first to become Certified Providers of the SpineCor for scoliosis in children, since then they have helped thousands with their scoliosis symptoms earning the distinction of being the most experienced SpineCor Providers in the United States.

This dynamic tension scoliosis brace has a unique, patented design that provides unparalleled results in improving scoliosis symptoms by gently encouraging corrective movements to help reduce curvatures.

See what the actress who plays Lulu on the Nickelodeon’s hit TV show “True Jackson VP” Ashley Argota has to say about her results with SpineCor and Scoliosis Systems.

Other patients of Scoliosis Systems have had similar experiences. To see more go to Scoldoc on Youtube and you’ll find dozens more stories of patients that have had success with their scoliosis systems.

2. Do They Offer Exercise for Scoliosis and Were They Specifically Designed for Scoliosis Treatment?

It’s important to understand what makes scoliosis exercise different from almost all other type of exercises. Since scoliosis is a unilateral rotation dysfunction it requires a very specific “unidirectional” rehabilitative exercises to correct the rotation of the spine. Because of this the wrong kind of exercise for scoliosis can actually make your curvatures worse, so knowing the difference is critical. That is why we only recommend one type of therapeutic exercise to our patients beginning care.

The Schroth Method are specifically designed exercises for scoliosis. Originally developed in Germany over 80 years ago to treat scoliosis they continue to be the Gold Standard in Europe.

Our Schroth Certified Instructors are among a handful doctors in the United State that provide direct instruction to their patients in the Schroth Method.

3. Are the scoliosis treatments provided specific for the causes of scoliosis and backed by research?

At Scoliosis Systems we find that our patients tend do their homework before to choosing us our methods because they are based on the latest scoliosis research. Just take a look at our site and you will see the research that backs it up.

We Invite You to Learn More About Scoliosis by reviewing the rest of our site.

To help people understand how our approach is different we provide FREE PHONE CONSULTS to discuss the details of your case to see if our dynamic approach is right for you. (See details at the bottom of this page)

Also to help people better understand the nature of our work we formed a non-profit organization called the Scoliosis Care Foundation . It is dedicated to supporting scientific research into the cause, detection and non-surgical correction of scoliosis and was designed as a source to help you become more familiar with our evidence based options.

4. Do They Minimize Your Child’s Exposure to Harmful Radiation?

Although x-ray exposure cannot be fully eliminated during the management of your child’s scoliosis, it can certainly be reduced. We share your concern for the harmful affects of radiation so we make every effort to reduce radiation with our advance imaging for scoliosis.

While most practitioners use x-rays as their sole method of checking the progress of scoliosis, we use device called Formetric Rastersterography that uses no harmful radiation to measure progress of curvatures in scoliosis. This technology has been used in Europe for over 20 years to monitor and has also been used by universities and research clinics because it is highly accurate. This allows us to reduce x-ray exposure over the course of care for our patients by as much as 75%!

5. Do They Offer a Variety Alternatives for Scoliosis Treatment?

If you are looking to avoid scoliosis surgery, it’s critical that not only doctor specialize in scoliosis treatment, rather than just as a sideline, but they should also offer a comprehensive scoliosis treatment approach. There are a number of known causes for scoliosis that need to be addresses and since each contributes to the scoliosis differently a variety of services need to be offered to address them.

6. Are the Latest Advanced Technology Being Used for the Treatment of Scoliosis Related Conditions?

Medical Research is making big advances in the understanding of scoliosis every year. Some of the most promising work is being done in the field of pediatric neurology that has come profound implications for scoliosis.

While most experts in the field concur that an underlying neurological factor exists in scoliosis only recently have studies have begun to point to the upper cervical spine as being directly implicated in scoliosis. The top bone in the spine called the Atlas sits directly underneath your skull and due to it’s location, even a small amount of misalignment here can cause pressure to the delicate brainstem and nearby cerebellum that is found underneath. This pressure can adversely affect the function of the balance portion of the nervous system that can contribute greatly to scoliosis in some cases. If there is misalignment of these segments then restoring proper alignment at the base of the skull can help reduce the pressure to the brain that is adding to scoliosis.

To help combat that we utilize Atlas Orthogonal (AO) as the treatment of choice. AO is a painless technique that uses an Orthogonal device to gently re-position the atlas. Precision X-rays are taken to calculate if there is any misalignment of the Atlas. If there appears to be any misalignment that is contributing to your scoliosis then this specialized evaluation may be recommended
